Since opiate addiction or dependence is a chronic illness characterized by occasional relapses, a short-term, one-time attempt at recovery may not be the answer.

we treat addiction to opiates on a long-term basis utilizing the FDA-approved drug known as Suboxone® (buprenorphine and naloxone).
Suboxone® and buprenorphine greatly decrease the withdrawal symptoms associated with early recovery. It has also proven successful as an alternative to controversial methadone maintenance programs. Detoxification is the most important process in early recovery. Its primary purpose is to stabilize someone while working toward a drug-free state. Buprenorphine is used to more effectively manage withdrawals while the abused drugs are eliminated through the body naturally and while the body adjusts to its drug of choice. It allows more intensive or long-term treatment to take place since it can be used for subsequent maintenance. Effective treatment of drug addiction requires comprehensive attention to all of an individual’s medical and psychosocial co-morbidities. Pharmacological therapy alone rarely achieves long-term success. At Las Virgenes Behavioral Health and Medical Clinic we combine buprenorphine or Suboxone® administration with ongoing behavioral therapies.

In order to participate in outpatient detox and / or treatment, an individual must be ambulatory, have a low risk for withdrawal complications, and have a strong support system consisting of family members or significant others.
