Self-Test: Do I Need Alcohol Treatment & Rehab?
Heavy drinking vs. alcoholism
Heavy drinking is different than alcoholism, which is an addiction to alcohol. Heavy drinkers can quit on their own through will-power or other means of self-control, without alcohol treatment or alcohol rehab. Alcoholism, as with all diseases, will only get worse without alcohol treatment such as alcohol detox and alcohol rehab.
Alcoholism requires alcohol detox & alcohol treatment
Alcoholism requires alcohol treatment and alcohol rehab. Alcoholism is uncontrolled and continued drinking even when negative consequences have occurred or surely will occur. This is a treatable mental and physical illness. The most common and successful alcohol treatment begins with alcohol detox and then proceeds to alcohol rehab.
Ask yourself some important questions
So what are your drinking habits? Before you jump to conclusions, take this simple test. These questions will help you figure out whether you’re simply a heavy drinker or potentially an alcoholic. You’ll notice that it doesn’t matter “what” you drink, but “how.” This is just a short list of questions. For the complete test, go here: http://www.d12.com/Resources/Alcoholism%20Self-Test.htm
Have you ever or do you currently:
drink more when you are sad, stressed, or quarreling with someone?
miss work, family, or social obligations because of your drinking?
have any arrests because of your drinking (including DUI and DWI)?
get asked by your friends and family members to change your drinking habits?
try to control your drinking but fail?
set rules for yourself in hopes of controlling your drinking, such as switching brands?
not remember blocks of time, though your friends tell you that you were not passed out?
feel uncomfortable in places or social events where drinking is not appropriate?
sometimes stay drunk for several days at a time?
get the shakes or have terrible nightmares/hallucinations when it’s been awhile since your last drink?
feel anxious or terrified after drinking?
feel guilty about your drinking or get depressed?
If you’ve answered “yes” to one or more of the above questions, you should contact Dr. Mohammad for a confidential consultation.
