Why Malibu Horizon Is Different From Other Programs

“Our addiction treatment program is based on a medical model, addressing addiction as a brain disease with both genetic (biological) and environmental (psycho-social) risk factors.

“Most of the people who run Drug and Alcohol Treatment facilities are themselves “in recovery.” In their desire to help others, they cobble together an Alcohol rehab or drug treatment program based on what worked for them, or what they’ve seen others do. We wouldn’t dream of using the 12 Steps to treat diabetes or heart disease, yet most Drug and Alcohol Treatment facilities claim recovery is impossible without these steps! Just imagine if hundreds of clinics across the country, each offered a different treatment for the common cold!

DRUG ABUSE INFO

More common than you think

Obviously, not everyone who uses drugs and alcohol is an alcoholic or addict. However, many people from all walks of life succumb to the disease of addiction. It is estimated that 1 in 10 “recreational” drug users and drinkers are actually addicts. There were 1.8 million people admitted to drug and alcohol treatment centers last year, according to a division of the National Department of Health and Human Services.

Alcohol is the most common reason for admission to a rehab, with over 700,000 people seeking alcoholism treatment annually.

An estimated 22 million Americans show are dependent on drugs and/or alcohol.

Alcohol isn’t “safe”: it kills more people annually than heroin, cocaine, and all illegal drugs combined.

Other stats on use and abuse:

Many people think that you have to be living in the gutter to be an alcoholic or drug addict. But this isn’t true at all! A full third of all people being admitted to alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are currently employed full time, with another third out of the work force entirely (retired, homemakers, underage, etc.).

510,000 adolescents between 12 and 17 years old used stimulants like meth and crack cocaine last year.

The amount of people seeking rehab for stimulants more than doubled in the last decade

Alcohol and drug abuse cost American society an estimated $246 billion in 1992, an amount which surely increased in the last 15 years.

It’s a disease, dummy!

There’s no shame in admitting defeat here. You’re battling a disease, not a personality trait. Just as a cancer patient has to accept chemo and radiation treatment in hopes of survival, substance abusers must accept treatment for hopes of a better life. Your path to a better life is yours for the taking. All you have to do is make the first step.

Treatment equals hope

The addiction medicine community estimates that only one in ten substance abusers ever actually “beats” the disease of addiction. Drug and alcohol treatment is the most valuable tool we have in making you that one in ten. Treatment is your best shot at avoiding a slow and painful death, or a quick and tragic one.

Don’t wait any longer

Addiction destroys families. It destroys homes, offices, and schools. Maybe you’re wondering if you or someone you love is an alcoholic or addict. Maybe you already know. It’s never too late to take the right step forward and start a new life.
