Why Malibu Horizon Is Different From Other Programs

“Our addiction treatment program is based on a medical model, addressing addiction as a brain disease with both genetic (biological) and environmental (psycho-social) risk factors.

“Most of the people who run Drug and Alcohol Treatment facilities are themselves “in recovery.” In their desire to help others, they cobble together an Alcohol rehab or drug treatment program based on what worked for them, or what they’ve seen others do. We wouldn’t dream of using the 12 Steps to treat diabetes or heart disease, yet most Drug and Alcohol Treatment facilities claim recovery is impossible without these steps! Just imagine if hundreds of clinics across the country, each offered a different treatment for the common cold!

Buprenorphine & Suboxone

These medications help drug detox & opiate treatment

Buprenorphine (said BYOO-prehn-or-fen) was created in the 1980s as a pain treatment. Beginning in 2000, it was approved for use in opiate treatment and drug detox, in a manner similar to methadone use in medical detox. Suboxone, a type of Buprenorphine that is placed under the tongue, was also approved for this method of drug detox.

The method for medical detox

Physicians are allowed to prescribe Buprenorphine and Suboxone to alleviate the withdrawal symptoms from opiate drug detox. This means of medical detox involves giving the patient something much less powerful than heroin or the opiate he’s addicted to, and then gradually tapering off the dose in a controlled and monitored fashion. It’s like using a patch to quit smoking.

Once drug detox is successfully achieved, your opiate treatment can begin putting you on the right path to a healthy life. The faster drug detox is achieved, the sooner you get a new outlook on life through opiate treatment. Your new life is waiting; call Dr. Mohammad’s office now: 818-879-9018.

Do I need these medications for my medical detox?

That will be decided only after a confidential, in-depth assessment by Dr. Mohammad and his support staff. If it’s deemed appropriate, these medications will be provided to you in order to lessen the pain and duration of your withdrawal symptoms.

If you’ve ever gone through drug detox before, or you’ve tried quitting opiates “cold turkey,” you know just how agonizing opiate withdrawal is. Buprenorphine and Suboxone are valuable tools designed to make the medical detox experience comfortable and quick, so you can begin your opiate treatment with a clear mind and a clean body.

Where do I need to go for medical detox?

For your privacy, Dr. Mohammad is authorized to provide medical drug detox in an outpatient setting, from the comfort of your own home. If you need opiate treatment, Dr. Mohammad will assess your need of drug detox, including Buprenorphine and Suboxone treatments. If appropriate and safe, you will undergo drug detox at home in as little as 3-5 days. Then your opiate treatment will begin.

In order to participate in outpatient detox and / or treatment, an individual must be ambulatory, have a low risk for withdrawal complications, and have a strong support system consisting of family members or significant others.
